Shelf check/inspection
Rack testing is an essential part of operational safety management in the warehouse and logistics sector. It is used to check and evaluate racking systems in order to ensure the safety of employees, goods and the warehouse infrastructure. Particularly with regard to DGUV regulation 108-007 (formerly BGR 234), the rack inspection is a key aspect in meeting the legal requirements for operational safety and occupational health and safety.
Shelf inspection: DGUV regulation for occupational safety
DGUV regulation 108-007 stipulates that racking and storage equipment must be checked regularly, i.e. once a year, for stability and load-bearing capacity. Various test procedures are used to ensure that the heavy-duty shelving, pallet racking and other storage racks withstand the stresses of daily operation. The most important test criteria include a visual inspection for visible damage, checking the load-bearing capacity, inspecting connecting elements and assessing the overall stability.
Accordingly, the racking inspection in accordance with DGUV regulations must be carried out at regular intervals by trained personnel in the company or external specialists. This involves recording existing damage and identifying potential risks so that preventative measures can be taken. According to the DGUV, the documentation of the rack inspections carried out is an important part of the legal obligation to provide evidence to the supervisory authorities.
Companies that have a racking inspection carried out in accordance with DGUV regulations benefit on the one hand from increased occupational safety and on the other hand from increased efficiency in warehouse operations. After all, early detection of defects can prevent accidents and effectively avoid downtime.
This is why rack inspection is an essential process for ensuring the safety and performance of wide-span racking and the like. Companies that comply with the applicable DGUV regulations and have regular rack inspections carried out contribute to the safety of the entire team and at the same time fulfill legal requirements in the area of occupational health and safety.
