Stretch film

Stretch film, also known as wrap film, is a flexible packaging material made of polyethylene (PE) that is characterized by its high stretchability and resilience. This film is mainly used to secure and stabilize goods on pallets, which is why it is also known as stretch film for pallets. Thanks to its elastic properties, the film adapts perfectly to the shape of the goods to be packaged and creates an even pressure when pulled back, which stabilizes the load.

"Normal" stretch film vs. power stretch film

While conventional stretch film already performs well in warehousing and logistics, power stretch film represents a further development with significantly improved properties:

  1. Stretchability: conventional wrap film typically has a pre-stretch of 150-200%. Powerstretch film, on the other hand, achieves a pre-stretch of up to 300%, which means that it can be stretched to three times its original length.
  2. Material thickness: Powerstretch film offers a higher tear resistance than standard stretch film for pallets with 20-23 micrometers despite its lower material thickness (often only 10-15 micrometers).
  3. Efficiency: Due to the higher stretchability, less material is required for the same result, which can reduce film consumption by up to 50%.

Areas of application

Stretch film for pallets is used in almost all areas of logistics and goods transportation:

  • Securing pallets in the warehouse and during transportation
  • Protection against moisture, dust and dirt
  • Bundling products into sales units
  • Stabilization of irregularly shaped goods

Powerstretch film is used in particular where high stability is required with reduced material usage, such as in high-volume shipping and in automated packaging lines.

Mechanical or "manual" application

Wrap film can be applied both manually and by machine:

  • Hand stretch film: With a width of 400-500 mm, this variant of stretch film for pallets is suitable for manual processing on a packing table optimized.
  • Machine stretch film: With widths of 500-750 mm, this is specially designed for automated pallet wrappers. pallet wrappers designed for automated pallet wrappers. Powerstretch film is used particularly frequently here, as it can be optimally pre-stretched in the machines.

Selection and criteria

When choosing the right wrapping film from TOPREGAL, the weight of the goods, storage conditions, packaging method and transparency requirements should be taken into account. Powerstretch film offers an optimum ratio of material, cost and safety in most applications, which is why it is increasingly replacing conventional stretch film in the professional sector.
