Information
A double rack row is a frequently used type of rack arrangement in warehousing. Two rows of pallet racking are positioned directly back to back, creating a continuous double rack. This design ensures particularly space-saving use of the storage area, as no additional aisle is required between the backs of the racks.
Advantages of a double rack row
The biggest advantage of a double rack row is the higher storage capacity. While a single row of pallet racking is designed to be accessible from both sides and therefore requires additional aisle space, double racking makes optimum use of the available space by providing access on one side only. In a warehouse in which several rows of double racking are set up next to each other, uniform rows of racking are created with clearly structured work and travel paths for industrial trucks such as forklift trucks.
Another advantage is the clear layout. The storage locations can be clearly assigned in a double rack row, which makes organization easier. At the same time, the shelves in the warehouse can be flexibly adjusted in height and depth to accommodate different types of goods such as Euro pallets, pallet cages or long goods.
Typical areas of application
Double racking is used particularly in large distribution centers, production facilities or large warehouses where a high storage density is required. A classic example is in a logistics warehouse for beverage manufacturers. Here, several rows of double racking are set up to store pallets with crates of drinks in a space-saving manner. Forklift trucks serve the outer aisles, while the middle areas are used for maximum storage space.
Difference to the single rack row
In contrast, the single rack row stands freely in the room and is accessible from both sides. This solution offers flexibility, but requires more space. In warehouses with limited space or high throughput, the double rack row is therefore the more efficient option.
A double rack row combines two rows of pallet racking to form a functional and space-saving double rack. It enables a high storage density, clear structure and optimized use of space. If you want to expand storage capacity without taking up additional warehouse space, a double rack row is the right choice.
