Solar modules

Solar modules are the central components of solar systems and play a crucial role in converting sunlight into electrical energy. These modules consist of many individual solar cells, which in turn are made of semiconductor materials such as silicon. When sunlight hits the solar cells, an electrical voltage is generated which is conducted through the solar module and is ultimately available as electricity.

Flexible solar modules

The variety of solar modules has increased considerably in recent years. One of the innovative developments are flexible solar modules. These use ultra-thin solar cells, such as thin-film photovoltaic films or organic photovoltaic cells. Despite the different materials, their principle is similar to that of conventional silicon solar cells: When sunlight hits the surface, electrical energy is generated. However, the efficiency of these flexible solar modules is somewhat lower than that of conventional silicon solar cells. One advantage of flexible solar modules, however, is their greater resistance to breakage. They are less susceptible to damage and are therefore particularly suitable for applications in extreme weather conditions.

Cleaning solar modules - is it necessary?

Solar modules usually clean themselves sufficiently. The rain that falls and the optimum angle of inclination, which ensures perfect solar radiation, are usually sufficient for this. It is therefore generally not necessary to remove dirt or dust from the modules in order to keep light transmission and efficiency at a high level. However, if you still want to help a little and the modules are within easy and safe reach, you can of course clean the solar modules yourself and remove any dirt if necessary.

Ideally, start in cool weather or in the morning when the modules themselves are still cool to avoid rapid evaporation of cleaning fluids. Use a soft broom or brush to remove coarse dirt and prepare it for subsequent wet cleaning, as these solid particles are the most common cause of scratches on the solar modules. Then clean the solar modules with lukewarm water and wipe with a mild cleaning agent (e.g. household washing-up liquid). Avoid aggressive chemicals or abrasive materials, as these can also damage the surface of the solar cells. A sponge or soft cloth is ideal for cleaning to prevent scratches. Rinse the modules thoroughly with clean water to remove all residues. For particularly stubborn dirt, you can use a special glass cleaner to clean the solar modules. Make sure that you do not exert a high load on the modules during cleaning to avoid damage. Regular maintenance ensures that your solar modules always function optimally.
