Order picking system
An order picking system is a technical system used in logistics to automatically pick items from a warehouse for orders. Such systems combine warehouse technology, conveyor technology and control software to speed up picking processes.
In automated picking, the system takes over the transportation, allocation and transfer of goods largely independently. This reduces travel times, increases throughput and lowers error rates. Especially in large warehouses with a high number of orders, automated picking is a worthwhile part of a modern solution.
Use of order picking forklifts in the picking system
In many order picking systems order pickers are used in many picking systems. These are vehicles that transport goods in shelves and process orders. If a product is very high up on the shelf, the order picking truck also drives into these areas and allows precise work on several levels. Such a high-level order picking truck can also be combined with the system's conveyor technology to provide optimum support for automated order picking. This is also referred to as a high-level order picking truck.
The integration of an order picking stacker into an order picking system makes automatic order picking more flexible. The forklift picks goods specifically from rack compartments, transfers them to conveyor lines or buffer zones and thus brings them into the system. This combines the mobility of the order picking forklift with the throughput of the order picking system.
Overall, an order picking system with components such as order picking forklifts and system control enables automated order picking to be carried out reliably. The higher the degree of automation in the system, the more companies benefit from reduced personnel costs, faster processes and fewer picking errors.
Future prospects for order picking
The further development of picking systems is an important aspect of warehousing. New technologies such as artificial intelligence and networked sensor systems are further optimizing automated picking. Modern systems with order picking forklifts adapt dynamically to fluctuating order volumes and learn from operating data. It will become increasingly important for companies to plan their order picking systems in a scalable manner and invest in future-proof solutions in order to remain competitive in the long term.
